AB MCDONALD COMMUNITY CENTRE

Graphic design and art direction services were required to produce interpretive signage for the renaming of the St. James Civic Centre. The client, the City of Winnipeg, renamed the centre Ab McDonald Community Centre in honour of Winnipeg's four-time Stanley Cup champion. Visitors are greeted with lively graphics, interesting life stories, statistics and hockey cards featuring Winnipeg’s hockey legend. 2022

I’ve viewed the renaming of many arenas over many years and no designer has ever done better work to celebrate the life and career of a player than Anikó has with Ab McDonald at the St. James Civic Centre. She has captured the four-time Stanley Cup champion in a bright, breezy, educational fashion, a broad cross-section of Ab’s life presented with this graphically pleasing walk through his days as a player and a giant-hearted figure off the ice. A Winnipeg hockey legend’s legacy is safe within these arena walls thanks to Anikó’s gentle, creative touch.
